Germany: Aboard the World’s First Hydrogen Train

In 2018, in Lower Saxony, Germany, Alstom launched the world’s first hydrogen‑powered train, destined to replace diesel locomotives. The train is equipped with fuel cells that produce electricity from the hydrogen stored in tanks on its roof. It is also outfitted with lithium-ion batteries to store energy recovered from braking. Welcome aboard the Coradia iLint.
