The Energy Transition in Germany

Up until the end of the 20th century, Germany was heavily dependent on fossil fuels and nuclear energy. In the wake of the Fukushima nuclear accident and due to concerns about pollution and climate change, Germany decided to embark on an energy transition program. Miranda Schreurs, Director of the Environmental Policy Research Center, and Stephan Kohler, Managing Director of the German Energy Agency, explain.
