Natural gas is liquefied before being transported aboard LNG carriers. International trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) is growing. Natural gas that has not been liquefied can be transported by land via extensive networks of gas pipelines, but this option is less flexible.

Le transport du gaz par voie terrestre

Pipelines continue to be the preferred mode of natural gas transportation despite the growth of liquefied natural gas (LNG)LNG is composed almost entirely of methane. Liquefying the gas reduces its initial volume by a factor of around 600... over the last several years. Built from one set location to another, pipelines can sometimes raise complex geopolitical problems.

By offering a flexible mode of transportation, liquefied natural gas (LNG)LNG is composed almost entirely of methane. Liquefying the gas reduces its initial volume by a factor of around 600... is poised to play a key role in driving the growth of natural gas in the global energy mixThe range of energy sources of a region.. The first step in the process consists of liquefying natural gas by reducing its temperature to -160°C.

GNL : le transport par méthanier et la regazéification

Once liquefied, natural gas is loaded onto specially designed ships called liquefied natural gas (lng)LNG is composed almost entirely of methane. Liquefying the gas reduces its initial volume by a factor of around 600... carriers. After its trip, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) is regasified at a dedicated terminal. In light of the growing importance of natural gas as an energy source, the LNG shipping sector is poised to play an increasing role in the global energy supply.

Gas Storage

As they do with oil, industrialized countries keep a strategic reserve of natural gas to ensure uninterrupted supply in the event of an emergency situation. Storage is also a way of adjusting supply to meet fluctuations in demand.
