Glossaire :Tanker [...] Trepan (three-cone bit)

Tanker (see the French definition )
Vessel used to transport oil.
Tectonics plates (see the French definition )
Tectonic or lithospheric plates are fragments of the Earth’s rigid crust that fit together like the pieces of a gigantic jigsaw puzzle.
The Trente Glorieuses (see the French definition )
The name given to the 30 years from 1945 to 1974 during which France and most other developed countries experienced significant economic growth. They came to an end when the first oil crisis occurred.
Thermal collector (see the French definition )
Device used to absorb solar heat and then release it.
Thermal gradient (see the French definition )
Thermal gradient is a continuous (i.e. uninterrupted) change in temperature that is determined by one variable (e.g. altitude, depth). For example, the deeper you go underground, the higher the temperature.
Thermal resistance (see the French definition )
The thermal resistance of a material is its ability to prevent heat from flowing through it. Materials with high thermal resistance are good insulators, as they can keep heat inside buildings (e.g. glass wool).
Thermosiphon (see the French definition )
A thermosiphon is a device in which a heat-transfer fluid (e.g. gas, water) flows naturally from bottom to top due to a temperature difference. In the thermosiphon of a thermodynamic solar system, for example, hot water (which is light) naturally rises towards the place where it will be stored or used. Cold water, however, is heavier and will move downwards.
TICPE (see the French definition )
In France TICPE stands for domestic duty on energy products. It replaced TIPP (domestic duty on petroleum products) as of January 1st 2011.
Ton of oil equivalent (see the French definition )
A ton of oil equivalent (“toe”) is the unit of energy measurement corresponding to the energy supplied by the combustion of a ton of oil. The unit was developed in order to compare the energy consumption and production of a country or region, regardless of the energy sources used.
Tower (see the French definition )
In wind energy, the tower is one of the parts of a wind turbine. It is usually made of metal (and more rarely of concrete) and supports the parts that are involved in electricity production (nacelle and rotor). It is fixed to a foundation set in the ground which ensures that the wind turbine is stable.
Traders (see the French definition )
Traders are businessmen who decide in real time on the purchase or sale of shares, currency, bonds and options. In the oil industry, traders buy the right amount and quality of oil from a refinery. They can also resell oil cargos and thus make a profit. They also trade in other finished products from refineries.
Trading (see the French definition )
Oil trading involves performing financial operations connected to the trade of hydrocarbon cargos.
Transformation (see the French definition )
Transformation is a refining technique which involves modifying the initial natural proportions of different product types in order to adapt them to consumer demand.
Trap (see the French definition )
Trapping is one of the 7 stages in oil deposit formation. Once the hydrocarbons have risen to the surface and are blocked by a cap rock, there still needs to be no other way for the oil or gas to leak out. Such a large enclosed volume is called a trap, and is necessary for a hydrocarbon deposit to form.
Trepan (three-cone bit) (see the French definition )
A trepan is a tool which, when turned relatively fast, can bore a well to reach hydrocarbon deposits. There are many types of trepan, such as a steel tooth bit, a crushing bit and a diamond bit.
