Glossaire :Heat pump [...] Hydropower

Heat pump (see the French definition )
A system in which the energy from warm water can be used by increasing its temperature through a small amount of energy.
Heat-transfer fluid (see the French definition )
A heat-transfer fluid is a gas or liquid that can transfer heat from point A to point B. Heat-transfer fluids are used in most manufacturing facilities in the energy field.
Heating value (see the French definition )
The heating value of a fuel is the amount of heat released during combustion. It is expressed in kWh or in MJ per cubic meter.
Horizontal drilling (see the French definition )
Horizontal drilling, as its name suggests, takes place horizontally in the reservoir. This method is a way of significantly improving well productivity, especially in thinner layers because a lot more oil can be recovered with just one well. The distance that can be covered by horizontal drilling can reach up to 4 km.
Hubbert peak theory (peak oil) (see the French definition )
Hubbert’s peak for oil and gas corresponds to the moment when the oil and gas supply will start to fall while demand will continue to rise.
Humic acid (see the French definition )
Acid product produced by plant decay that is present in soil humus.
Hydraulic fracturing (see the French definition )
By injecting water at high pressure, fissures are made in the reservoir rock. The hydrocarbons will then be able to flow more easily through these fissures towards the production well.
Hydrocarbon (see the French definition )
Hydrocarbons are substances that only contain carbon and hydrogen. They are the main components of crude oil and gas, as well as petroleum products.
Hydrocracking (see the French definition )
Hydrocracking is a petrochemical process used to convert heavy oil products into lighter products at high temperatures by injecting hydrogen.
Hydrogen (see the French definition )
The lightest atom and the most abundant element in the universe. Hydrogen forms water when combined with oxygen (H20).
Hydrolysis (see the French definition )
The hydrolysis of a substance is its decompostion by water through ions H3O+ and OH- resulting from the dissociation of water.
Hydrophone (see the French definition )
A hydrophone is a wave receiver and the marine equivalent of the geophone (which is used on land). Seismic recordings can be made from a boat pulling a string of these floating receivers behind it.
Hydropower (see the French definition )
This is a form of energy produced by the force of water flowing in a current or in waterfalls.
