- Gas pipeline (see the French definition )
- Pipelines used to transport gas over long distances (on land or on the sea bed).
- Geophone (see the French definition )
- Geophones are very sensitive receivers placed on the ground and used to record a complex series of waves generated during seismic surveys.
- Geothermal power (see the French definition )
- Geothermal power is energy from the heat of the earth. The heat from naturally warm waters can also be used as a source of energy. Waters which have a moderate temperature are used to produce heat (for urban heating, e.g. in the Aquitaine region of France, or in Greater Paris). Water with a higher temperature can be used to produce electricity.
- Gravity dam (see the French definition )
- A type of dam of such size and thickness that its weight alone is enough to withstand the pressure of the water that the dam retains.
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) (see the French definition )
- Greenhouse gases are gases with physical properties that cause the earth’s atmosphere to heat up. There are a number of greenhouse gases, including CO2 (carbon dioxide), methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and steam. There are also industrial greenhouse gases such as heavy halocarbons, CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons, used as the main propellant in aerosols) and HCFC-22 molecules (e.g. Freon, the gas that was used in refrigeration systems).
- Growth plateau (see the French definition )
- As oil prices reach an all-time high, two possibilities exist. Prices may suddenly drop (the high point then being a "peak"), or become stable if a balance is maintained between supply and demand. This is known as a growth plateau.
- Gulf Stream (see the French definition )
- A very strong sea current which carries the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean to Greenland, crossing the whole of the North Atlantic.
