Who is producing, who is consuming?

Gas- A Growing Energy Source

09/08/2010

Overall, gas production is rising worldwide, as is consumption. However, gas consumption is falling in a number of European countries. Compared to oil, reserves are less concentrated in certain regions.

A Sharp Rise in Production

Production among most major gas stakeholders rose significantly between 2005 and 2008, with average growth of 10% worldwide. Qatar and China are now ranked among the ten largest producers worldwide.

Bullish Consumption Except in Europe

Gas consumption rose by an average of 9% worldwide between 2005 and 2008.

Reserves Concentrated in Three Countries

Three countries - Russia, Iran, and Qatar - currently share 53.2% of proven conventional gas reserves worldwide. Non-conventional gas (shale gas, tight gas, and coal bed methane) is growing fast in the United States.
