Biogas- A Growing Energy Source in Europe
08/10/2010
Thanks to methanization- i.e. the production of gas through the break-down of organic material in an oxygen-free environment- household, industrial, and agricultural waste are growing energy sources. European production in 2007 grew 20.5% over 2006. In Europe, Germany and the United Kingdom are far ahead of the other countries.
Germany and the United Kingdom Leading Production

Two countries - Germany and the United Kingdom - are way ahead of other countries when it comes to biogas production in Europe. Germany is ranked first, thanks to rapidly developing on-farm methanization. It had 3,750 agricultural biogas production facilities in 2007. On the other hand, the United Kingdom relies more on landfill, with 88.2% of primary energy production from biogas in the country coming from this area.
