Total’s Solar Energies actions in France

In order to meet the French Grenelle Agreements, Total has launched a number of actions about solar energies in France. This responsible approach has a main objective: raising awareness about renewable energies, especially among young people, is essential to ensure the energetic transition.
Nowadays, solar is an energy that raises interest, but its mechanisms and its applications are still unknown. Thus, in order to educate young people and to give them comprehensive keys on solar issues, Total’s experts have conceived, with the solid support of teachers, an educational set dedicated to solar photovoltaic energy, for school children aged 13 to 15.
A unique and complete tool currently available for teachers, this set is in accordance with the French National Ministry of Education programs, and can be used in various classes such as technology, physics, chemistry, natural sciences or biology. Total Solar Expert offers a complete program based on complementary tools: a guide for the teacher, an educational video, a magazine and a workbook for pupils, a construction set, and a solar cell. The set can be ordered by teachers free of charge on our Publications page. For this first edition, the Total Solar Expert set is available in French only. The short movie and the Solarama, magazine are however, both available in English.
Since the launching of this brand new educational set, more than 700 people of the French Ministry of Education and 28 000 teachers of natural sciences and technology in France have been informed through a mailing campaign, a Media Plan or from attending shows specialized in education. The deployment of the set, which started in early September 2011, is already successful: we received over 7 500 orders in less than a month.
Total Solar Expert is an illustration of a new way of communicating on renewable energies: both reachable and responsible. This initiative also shows, in an original and tangible way, the commitment of Total on solar energy.
