Stakeholders in the Hydrocarbon World

09/09/2010

There are many stakeholders in the oil and gas sector. The most well-known are large private oil companies, or institutions such as OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries). However, there are also other types of companies, organizations, and authorities, of various sizes and status; and with different histories and activities.

Oil and Gas Institutions

Various institutions are working on issues related to the economic and geopolitical stakes surrounding hydrocarbons, energy policies, supply security, and combating global warming on a global, European, and national scale.

The Different Types of Oil Company

Oil companies from developing countries exist alongside large state-run companies and major private companies that were founded and have been working together since the end of the 19th century. There are also medium-sized and small independent companies, often specializing in a particular sector of the oil industry.
