Which are the main producing countries for hydroelectricity (or electricity from hydraulic sources) ?
In 2005, China became the world’s leading hydroelectric producer, with Canada in second position. China’s dominance will increase in the years to come, as the gigantic Three-Canyons Dam on the Yang-Tse-Kiang River is progressively brought into operation.

And by geographical region
In general, hydroelectricity-producing countries consume their production, even if some, like France, export a little electricity to neighbouring countries. Hydroelectricity appears to be a lot more evenly spread across the continents than the non-renewable energy sources, with the exception of Africa, whose hydroelectric potential is vastly under-exploited.
World hydroelectric production reached a level of 3 000 billion kWh in 2006, accounting for 16.6% of total world electricity production for the year of 18 015 billion kWh.
